I recall some archaic program, coded in Cobol I would imagine, which used to do our accounting on some old 8086 machine. (Whoo! 128 kb!) My favourite feature used to be that it had to be put into "High-Speed End of Period Mode" to do certain tasks. I never was able to figure out why it couldn't run in high-speed mode all the time, but whatever....
Anyway, the impending crunch of the end of the tax-filing season makes me feel like I need to find that mode again.
